Scholarships 2018-2019

Scholarship applications are due: FRIDAY, MAY 17TH @ 11:59 PM

LBSA UCI awards scholarships to our most active members. This year the scholarship categories include Dr. Lara Scholarship, Academics, Need-Based, Commencement, and Member Participation. As a paid member, you may apply to all scholarships if you meet the criteria. Check out the scholarship prompts and requirements below. Email scholarship essay and additional documents to academics.lbsauci@gmail.com no later than May 17th by 11:59 PM. The essays must be in PDF format. Email subject line should include: Full name and scholarship which you are applying to. Please send separate emails for multiple scholarships.  Winner(s) will be announced at Banquet, June 1st. *ALL DOCUMENTS MUST BE SUBMITTED ON TIME IN ORDER TO QUALIFY FOR SCHOLARSHIP(S), MISSING DOCUMENTS WILL MAKE FOR AN INCOMPLETE APPLICATION AND WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED*

Scholarships prompts are listed below:

DR. LARA SCHOLARSHIP — $600

Prompt: Please explain a personal hardship or catastrophic life event that you have experienced. How did you manage to overcome this obstacle? What did you learn and how did you grow from it?  (Word Count: 550-900)

Requirements:

  • Must be an active-member
  • Overall minimum G.P.A. of 2.7
  • Must submit unofficial transcript
  • Must have attended one LBSA social, professional, and community service event
  • Must have a letter of recommendation from a current LBSA UCI board member
  • Graduating seniors do not qualify

 

ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIP — $400

Prompt: Why should you be selected for a scholarship? Please describe any academic achievements, community service activities, examples of leadership, or other personal characteristics that make you deserving of this scholarship?  (Word Count: 400-650)

Requirements:

  • Must be an active-member
  • Overall minimum G.P.A. of 3.0
  • Must submit an unofficial transcript
  • Graduating seniors do not qualify

 

NEED-BASED SCHOLARSHIP  — $300

Prompt: Discuss the subject(s) in which you have had difficulty. What factors do you believe contributed to your difficulties? From a financial standpoint, what impact would this scholarship have on your education?  (Word Count: 350-600)

Requirements:

  • Must be an active-member
  • Must be Pell-Grant Eligible
  • Must submit most recent financial aid package
  • Graduating Seniors do not qualify

 

MEMBER PARTICIPATION SCHOLARSHIP— $300

Prompt: Explain how LBSA has made an impact on your college career.  (Word Count: 250-500)

Requirements:

  • Must be an active-member
  • Only Top 5 members, based on the point system, are eligible
  • *Those who are eligible to apply will be directly contacted by the current Director of Academic Affairs*

 

COMMENCEMENT SCHOLARSHIP— $150

Prompt: Discuss any challenges or obstacles you have dealt with and overcome in life and in college how will this will help you succeed beyond college. What is one valuable piece of information you have learned while being a member of LBSA and how do you plan to give back as an LBSA Alumni? (Please answer all parts of the question.)  (Word Count: 350-600)

Requirements:

  • Must be an active-member
  • Minimum G.P.A. of 2.5
  • Must submit unofficial transcript
  • Must be a graduating senior

*A member may apply to multiple scholarships, if they meet the individual scholarship requirements, but may only be awarded a maximum of one scholarship

*An active-member is a LBSA UCI student who is a paid member in the 2018-2019 school year

*Board members for the 2018-2019 school year are not eligible to apply to the 2018-2019 scholarships

*All scholarship recipients will be chosen by an alumni committee and the current LBSA advisors

*All applications will be submitted to the committee anonymously; to prevent bias

*Scholarship recipients will be announced at the end-of-the-year banquet

*Unable to attend banquet will not harm a member from being awarded a scholarship, however it is highly encouraged you attend
