Scholarships 2021-2022

Scholarship applications are due: SUNDAY, MAY 15TH @ 11:59 PM

LBSA UCI awards scholarships to our active members. This year the scholarship categories include Dr. Lara Scholarship, Academics, Equal Opportunity, Member Participation, and Commencement. As a paid member, you may apply to all scholarships if you meet the criteria. Check out the scholarship prompts and requirements below. Click on this link academics.lbsauci@gmail.com to email your scholarships essay and additional documents no later than May 15th by 11:59 PM. The essays must be in PDF format. Email subject line should include: Full name and scholarship which you are applying to. Please send separate emails for multiple scholarships.  Winner(s) will be announced early June. Scholarships prompts are listed below:

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS for all scholarships:

  • Must be an active member 
  • Board cannot apply
  • Must be submitted on time (NO EXCEPTIONS)
  • Requirements will vary based on scholarship , must submit all requirements along with the application.
  • To qualify, you must answer ALL parts of the question.

*A member may apply to multiple scholarships, if they meet the individual scholarship requirements, but may only be awarded a maximum of one*

*If you win more than 1 scholarship, you will be awarded the one of highest value.

Dr. Lara Scholarship $600

Prompt: Describe a time where you demonstrated perseverance and growth from a personal hardship in your life. Explain how you were dedicated to overcome, or how you are currently overcoming, this challenge? What did you learn from this moment? If you came across another person with the same hardship as yours, what would your response and advice be? Mail to: academics.lbsauci@gmail.com

Requirements: 

  • Must have attended one social, professional, study hour, and community service event.
  • Must have a letter of recommendation from a board member.
  • Minimum G.P.A of  2.5 (must submit unofficial transcript) 
  • Graduating seniors do not qualify. 
  • Word Count: 600-950

Academics $400

Prompt: List all academic achievements, examples of leadership, and other personal characteristics that make you deserving of this scholarship. Briefly list your short and long term goals. Where do you see yourself 10 years from now? Mail to: academics.lbsauci@gmail.com

Requirements: 

  • Word Count: 400-650
  • Graduating seniors do not qualify.
  • Submit unofficial transcript with proof of Dean’s Honor List.
    • Minimum of one quarter or more
  • Dean’s Honor List must have been accomplished in the 2021-2022 school year

Equal Opportunity $325

Prompt: Explain your financial hardships as of now and how you finance your college education. Describe what factors–academically, professionally, socially, and/or personally– that your finances negatively impacted your experience as a student. What impact would this scholarship have on your education and overall? Mail to: academics.lbsauci@gmail.com

Requirements: 

  • Word Count: 350-650
  • Must submit most recent financial aid package information
  • Graduating seniors do not qualify. 
  • Must be Pell-Grant Eligible (Submit proof of financial aid)

Member Participation $200 (2) 

Prompt: Explain how LBSA has made an impact on your college career. How would you explain LBSA at UCI to someone wanting to join? Mail to: academics.lbsauci@gmail.com

Requirements: :

  • ONLY Top 7 Members and Member of the Month*, based on the point system, are eligible for the scholarship.
  • Word Count: 250-550
  • members who joined Spring Quarter are not eligible.

* Those who are eligible to apply will be directly contacted by Ariana, the current Director of Academic Affairs.*

Commencement $175 (2)  (Graduating Senior)

Promt: Discuss your short and long term goals. What is your biggest takeaway from your UCI experience and how did/will that shape your future post graduation? What is one valuable piece of information you have learned while being a member of LBSA, and how do you plan to give back as an LBSA Alumni? Mail to: academics.lbsauci@gmail.com

Requirements: 

  • Must be a 2021 graduating senior
  • Minimum G.P.A 2.5 
  • Must submit unofficial transcript
  • Word count: 350-600
